    Solo Exhibition | Kang Jianfei: Timberverse

    On March 20, the solo exhibition Timberverse – Kang Jianfei Art Exhibition opened at One Art Museum in Beijing. This exhibition comprehensively presents the artistic trajectory of Professor Kang Jianfei from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) since 1995. Showcasing 54 significant works spanning nearly 30 years of artistic exploration, this exhibition marks a major milestone in Kang’s artistic journey.

    ZHÙ: Three Natural Themes in Feng Jie’s Art Exhibition

    Curated by Zhao Yan, ZHÙ: the solo exhibition of Feng Jie, Professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Secretary of the Party Branch of the School of Continuing Education at CAFA, was unveiled at HUAIXUAN on March 16, 2025. Artist Feng Jie and curator Zhao Yan took the Chinese character “筑”(Zhù) as the pivotal image and three natural symbols extracted from traditional Chinese art were reconstructed in Feng’s contemporary paintings.

    “Nóstoi” by Wu Xiaohai: Who Decides What People See?

    Νόστοι, translated as “Nóstoi”, is the title of the latest solo exhibition by Wu Xiaohai presented at Chunchen Research Center for Contemporary Art. While talking about this exhibition with CAFA ART INFO, the artist did not shy away from the fact that it was a “quickie” that he expected to embrace with fortuity. With his familiarity with the materials, his experience and confidence that have been accumulated over many years, and of course some mentality of creative game, Wu almost completed the preparations for it in one go at the fastest speed.

     “Lin Lang - The Chinese Story of Jewelry Art:International Touring Exhibition of Contemporary Jewelry", a 2025 China National Arts Fund-supported project for cultural exchange and international promotion funded by the public welfare funds of the China Welfare Lottery and China Sports Lottery, will be held at three venues in Munich and Pforzheim, Germany, from March 10 to May 16, 2025. Supported by the Public Welfare Funds of China Welfare Lottery and China Sports Lottery, and the China National Arts Fund.

    Unbinding and Reconstructing: The Polyphonic Narrative of Yuan, Ming, and Qing Painting

    When discussing Chinese painting from the Yuan to Qing dynasties, the names of literati painters such as Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang, along with masterpieces like Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains and Autumn Colors on the Qiao and Hua Mountains, shine like brilliant stars in our minds. For a long time, literati painting has dominated research on Yuan, Ming, and Qing art, occupying the center stage under the spotlight. This prevailing narrative, focused on renowned artists and famous works, has led to a fragmented understanding of Chinese painting—seeing the trees but missing the forest.

    The ever-shifting “nostalgia” in various forms of art presented at CAFAM

    Being the fourth project of “Expand + Curate: Young Experiment Project Space, Phase III”, Flowing Nostalgia: An Ecological Narrative Interwoven with Materiality and Sensory Experiences, Technology and Imagination was recently unveiled at Gallery 2C, CAFA Art Museum. With Fei Jun served as the Academic Advisor, the exhibition was curated by Wang Jing and Xing Dan and it showcases latest works by Chen Baoyang, Long Pan, Qiu Yu, Shi Ziyuan, Tang Keyang, Wang Xintong, Xu Ziyi and artist collective The Center for Genomic Gastronomy (CGG).

    Selected collection of “Ancient Chinese Art” is shown at CAFAM

    Being one of key national art museums in China, CAFA Art Museum (abbr. CAFAM) houses over 20,000 artworks, encompassing a wide range of artistic creations from ancient Chinese civilization to modern expressions. The diversified collection of CAFA Art Museum is categorized into several sections, including collection of ancient Chinese art, modern and contemporary Chinese art, and works by CAFA faculty members and alumni. CAFAM has emphasized the research and display of its collection in recent years by launching a series of exhibitions and research projects including “Modern Chinese Art” which was opened to the public in 2024.

    Exploration and Retrospection: Academic Research Exhibition Featuring Achievements by the Department of Oil Painting at CAFA

    “Exploration and Retrospection”, the fifth session of the “Integration of Curriculum and Exhibition” series, was recently unveiled at the spiral staircase gallery of Building 5 at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (abbr. CAFA). It was jointly organized by the Academic Affairs Office and the Department of Oil Painting of CAFA. Xu Yang, Secretary of the Party Committee of CAFA, Lin Mao, President of CAFA, Liu Peiyuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection at CAFA, Lyu Pinjing, Deputy President of CAFA, Hao Ninghui, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Yuan Yuan, Director of the Department of Oil Painting, heads of relevant departments, representatives of teachers and students at CAFA, heads of oil painting departments and faculty representatives of key art colleges and universities across the country, as well as representatives of cooperative enterprises attended the opening ceremony.     Sketching in Hutongs | Exhibitions Themed on Hutongs in Beijing Debuted at NCPA

    The National Centre for the Performing Arts (abbr. NCPA) recently opened “Memories of A Historical City: Artworks on the Theme of Beijing’s Hutongs” to the public, and “Impressions of Beijing: Sketching Exhibition of Hutongs by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (abbr. CAFA)” was launched simultaneously. Co-organized by CAFA and NCPA, the exhibitions were sponsored by the CPC Publicity Departments of Dongcheng District and Xicheng District in Beijing with the generous support from Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau.

    The Vicennial Exhibition Celebrating Achievements by School of Chinese Realistic Painting at CAFAM

    On 19 December 2024, “The Vicennial Exhibition Celebrating Achievements by School of Chinese Realistic Painting” was unfolded at the CAFA Art Museum. It was jointly sponsored by the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Chinese Realistic Painting, hosted by the CAFA Art Museum, and supported by the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting from Chinese National Academy of Arts and the Beijing Jin Shangyi Art Foundation. A total of 41 artists were invited to present over 220 classic realistic artworks.

    When Poetry Meets Printmaking: “Ocean on Paper” is on display at CAFA Art Museum

    Recently, the exhibition “Ocean on Paper: Poetry and Printmaking” was unveiled at the Art Museum of Central Academy of Fine Arts. Being a part of the cultural project “Poetry and Printmaking” for international poetry and printmaking communication, the first phase was held in 2013 with the theme of “Rivers on Paper”, and the second phase was held in 2024 with the theme of “Oceans on Paper”. The exhibition showcases 20 poems and 20 printmaking works. The images in the poems are extended in the printmaking, while the unique printmaking expressions also add new interpretations to the poems. Both of them center around the same theme in their own ways, and they converge into artistic resonance in various expressions.

    Painting, Wandering: Liu Shangying's recent paintings are presented at FutureLand Art Center

    Themed on “Painting, Wandering”, the latest solo exhibition by Prof. Liu Shangying from the Central Academy of Fine Arts is on display at the FutureLand Art Center in Beijing. Curated by French curator Olivier Kaeppelin, the exhibition focuses on Liu Shangying’s latest on-site paintings at the southern and northern foothills of the East Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang from 2022 through to 2024, and it also includes his practice in outdoor paintings in Lop Nur, Altyn Mountains in Xinjiang, and Ejina Banner in Inner Mongolia from 2016 through to 2021.
